Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach designed to help individuals process distressing memories and overcome the negative effects of traumatic experiences. It was originally developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s. EMDR is recognized as an effective treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and it has been used to address a range of psychological issues beyond trauma.

Key components of EMDR therapy include:

1. Eight Phases: EMDR therapy typically consists of eight distinct phases, each serving a specific purpose. These phases include history-taking, treatment planning, and target memory identification, among others.
2. Bilateral Stimulation: One of the unique features of EMDR is the use of bilateral stimulation, which can involve the therapist guiding the client's eye movements back and forth, auditory tones, or other forms of rhythmic left-right stimulation. This bilateral stimulation is thought to engage both hemispheres of the brain and facilitate the processing of traumatic memories.
3. Target Memory: The therapy focuses on specific target memories that are distressing for the individual. These memories are often related to past traumatic events, and the goal is to help the individual process these memories more adaptively.
4. Processing: During EMDR sessions, the therapist helps the client to explore the targeted memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation. This process is believed to facilitate the adaptive processing of the traumatic memory, allowing it to be integrated more healthily into the person's overall memory network.
5. Installation of Positive Beliefs: As the traumatic memory is processed, EMDR includes a phase where positive beliefs are identified and "installed" to replace negative or maladaptive beliefs associated with the trauma. This aims to promote a more positive and adaptive self-perception.
6. Closure: Each EMDR session concludes with a structured process to ensure the client is grounded and feels stable before leaving the session. If necessary, the therapist provides coping strategies for the individual to use between sessions.
7. Reevaluation: Subsequent sessions involve reevaluating the processing of past target memories and addressing any new material that may arise. The therapy continues until the client reports a significant reduction in distress related to the targeted memories.

Currently,  we are taking Private 

We only take private pay  clients $175 per session, that includes all EMDR sessions. Family counseling is $200. We will be taking insurance in the near future. 

Currently, we only practice  the State of Florida and can be located in any part of the state for virtual sessions
